Welcome to our club!

-Athenaeum is a central London chess club, based in Covent Garden, with about 60 members of varying strength.

-Athenaeum was founded in 1873 and that makes us London's oldest surviving chess club.

-We compete in the London League, the Middlesex League, and various Banks and Insurance League competitions. Home fixtures are on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at 6.45pm.

-The home venue is Dudley Court, Tenants' Hall, 36 Endell Street, London WC2. Dial 100 and press "Enter" on the security system at the entrance. Someone will open the door or come and meet you. Once inside, go through the lift lobby, turn right, and the venue is the second door on the right. The nearest tube is Covent Garden, but Tottenham Court Road, Holborn and Charing Cross are all within 10 minutes' walking distance.

-We welcome new members - please contact the club secretary, Geoff Hermes
